Scott Ransom, on the back deck of our house in Brainerd, MN, overlooking a bluff down to the Mississippi River. I'm fortunate to live in this photo-friendly place and enjoy taking pictures of the ever-changing environment and the folks, birds and critters that live here. I have raced in many triathlons and running races, and believe I know the kind of photos that race participants like to see. And I'm enjoying the challenge of branching out to other sports.
All photos on this site were taken by me except as noted. Want one of them? They are yours to have - click here for info.
If you want a higher resolution photograph than can be downloaded from this site, or a different filter applied or removed, please contact me and I can usually get it for you. If there are enough photos that you'd like to create a photo book (basketball or volleyball photos of your favorite player for example), reach out to me and I can make that happen.
If you find yourself in any of these photos and prefer not to be included on this site, let me know and they will be removed immediately, no questions asked.
By the way, the best way to ensure your photo is NOT posted here is to display vulgar or insulting words or comments, or to advertise a political personality, party, logo, etc. on your clothing or body.
You can certainly judge the photos on this site for yourself, but these comments received were very nice too:
"You are so incredibly talented and it’s such a treasure for me to have that day documented with the best race photography I’ve ever seen. On that note, I did IMWI a month or so later and I think you could school every one of their photographers. You’re in an entirely different artistic league. Your work is beautiful!" -- L.H.
"Wanted to thank you for capturing a few pictures at the Lakes Country Triathlon. Thank you for helping to capture the event. Not my best showing however it was my wife’s first triathlon so it will always be a great memory." -- S.R.
"Scott, your photography is outstanding! Even though the day looked cold and miserable, you were able to capture some smiles and that temporarily took away the pain those runners were feeling. Very nice backgrounds too!" -- M.D.
I shoot mostly the Micro Four Thirds system. My main camera is an Olympus EM1 Mk3, and my favorite lens to go with it is the Panasonic-Leica 100-400mm zoom lens. With this combo I have incredible "reach" and great image quality. I can often get that great candid capture without you seeing me or thinking you're in range.
